Ice Cave in Breiðamerkurjökull

Would you like to see how creative nature can get? How about riding in a custom-made super-jeep to get there? Let us introduce our most popular tour, the Ice Cave tour in Breiðamerkurjökull, where you will experience something you will never forget with one of our experienced guides. Let the adventure begin!

THE TOUR

Your journey will begin by meeting your driver guide and the biggest custom-made super jeeps in Iceland! We depart from the Glacier Lagoon and drive for about thirty minutes or as close as possible to Breiðamerkurjökull, the glacial tongue that extends from southern Vatnajökull. During our journey, your guide will explain how ice caves form. He will also share information about the glaciers, volcanoes, and the culture of this area. After arriving, we will walk for about twenty minutes until we reach Breiðarmerkur glacier and the cave’s entry. Before we enter the cave, your guide will go over some safety issues and provide you with helmets and crampons if conditions require them.

As Ice Caves are completely natural and change very quickly, nature dictates which caves we are able to access. As the glacier and the caves are in constant change, the conditions for each tour can vary. During the tour, we will try to show you how different the glacier can be, from blue ice to green and even black ice. Our guests often tell us the most memorable part of the experience is being able to see an array of different formations, colors, and caves.

WHICH ICE CAVE DO WE VISIT?

We always try to choose the most beautiful locations and ice caves to take our clients to. Keep in mind that from season to season, even within the season, the ice caves change, old ones disappear, and new ones form. The ice caves we visit therefore change, but we always take our clients to the best ice cave of the season.

If you want an even longer tour, we also offer a 5-6 hour tour with the ice cave combined with a glacier walk.
